Sister of fallen Paramedic Paul Patterson
On June 12th 1976, Laura was born in London, Ontario; one minute and fifteen seconds later, her twin brother Paul arrived. At home the twins had a fifteen month old brother Jeff waiting. Dirt bikes, driving tractor on the farm and weekend crop tours were always on the forefront. Laura graduated from dental school with honours in 1995 and worked as a dental assistant in Strathroy for four years. Marrying her high school sweet heart Andy in 1997, the couple moved a short 8 miles from Kerwood to Watford.
In 2002, Laura changed careers and decided to farm with her husband. Laura and Andy now run their farming business together along with their two beautiful daughters Sarah and Emily.
On February 25th 2007, Laura's twin brother Paul was killed in the line of duty. While en route to a call, his Paramedic First Response Unit lost control on an icy road and rolled over. Laura is blessed to have shared 30 1/2 years with her twin brother Paul. She will always carry a special part of him in her.
Since Paul's tragic incident,Laura has become a strong advocate of paramedicine and Paramedics in general. Supporting the Dave Mounsey Memorial Fund, which donates the life-saving public access defibrillators to those areas in need, Laura looks forward to being a judge in this years event. Laura has been integral in the enacting of the Ontario Paramedic Bravery Act and has become a board member of the Ontario Paramedic Memorial Monument Foundation.
Laura's participation in these groups enable the memory and legacy of her twin brother Paul to continue well into the future.
